miles. The usual, "Why the heck am I doing this...again?" comes up often. The real question has been popping up, lately. Why do I run? Why does anyone run?
I imagine the professional runners do it because they are just plain good at it. That's pretty straight forward. The rest of us, the ones not setting the world on fire, setting records, running the same races...why? So, I started asking runners of all paces:
- Exercise (ok, but 12, 14, 16 miles probably counts as more than just exercise)
- Emotional balance (I can definitely relate to that one.)
- Badass (now, that's more like it!)
- Social (I think surprises most non-runners at how social runners are. It's like a heat seeking missile at any gathering. We find each other, compare races, strength plans, nutrition. Just a tad cultish.)
- The possibility of the "what if." The next goal, the next faster race. Bottom line, hope.
Why do you run? What get's you out of bed at those ridiculous hours to run double digit miles?
